Name: Jorthos
Gender: Male
Age: 30
Species: Great Horned Owl
Occupation: Warrior, Counselor
Physical Appearance: Jorthos looks like your typical Great Horned Owl, except his feathers are mainly black or dark brown, making him quite hard to see, especially when it is dark. His wings are very strong and powerful and so are his talons.
Possessions:
Jorthos's dwelling, a hollow in a tree has literature on bookshelves, desks, and tables.
Personality:
Jorthos is, like many owls, extremely wise and sometimes gives counsel to curious or troubled beasts. He is a warrior also, standing up for what is right and not letting evil creatures boss him and his friends around, and very fierce, but, interestingly enough, he doesn't eat mice, shrews, or any other species that is typically good, except once an evil bank vole. Other than that, Jorthos eats either fish, other evil birds, and vegetarian foods. Still, Jorthos is a frightful sight to some creatures, mainly mice and shrews.
Strengths:
-Great warrior
-Wise and smart
-Good at flying
Weaknesses:
-Sometimes goodbeasts mistake him as an evil creature and don't trust him.
-Sometimes seems a little grumpy
History:
Jorthos's mother was Sorla and his father was Forthrukk. Jorthos lived with them in a hollow in a giant oak tree. The whole family of great horned owls were mainly vegetarians.
When Jorthos was five seasons old, his father went out to hunt for their dinner, leaving Jorthos with his mother back at their home. Forthrukk never came back home and Jorthos and Sorla never found out what happened to him, but after several seasons, they both thought that Forthrukk was dead.
When Jorthos was eleven seasons old, six seasons after his father disappeared, the young owl and his mother were busy getting ready for dinner when suddenly Jorthos saw a huge, sinister shape swoop in front of him into their hollow. Jorthos called out a warning to his mother and rushed to her, trying his best to be brave. The evil shape, now the two owls could tell it was a giant rook, flew up to Forthrukk and Jorthos, two other rooks following behind. The lead bird threatened the great horned owls, saying that if they didn't surrender to him he would kill them. Sorla was a warrior at one time, so she was ready to fight but, knowing Jorthos wasn't as experienced as herself, the owl decided to surrender. The lead rook smiled wickedly, then knocked Jorthos unconscious with one of his wings. Sorla screeched angrily but was killed by the rooks who left after stealing and vandalizing the great horned owls home.
When Jorthos woke up, he saw the horrible carnage and wreckage about him and began crying. He was like that for many seasons, sad, depressed, barely managing to stay alive because he was not as an experienced hunter as his mother, until at age fourteen, while Jorthos was out trying to find his dinner, two kind barn owls, the male, Hythrus and the female, Swiftwing--also mainly vegetarians--took him to their home, also a hollow in a tree. The two barn owls took good care of him, and eventually Jorthos was not as sad and depressed as before.
Jorthos also learned to be a great warrior and hunter and an extremely wise and knowledgeable creature.
When Jorthos became an adult, he still lived with the Hythrus and Swiftwing, but occasionally Jorthos would visit the wonderful Redwall Abbey.
Jorthos still hasn't forgotten parents and sometimes still searches for them.
Relationships: His parents Forthrukk and Sorla and his two barn owl friends, Hyrthrus and Swiftwing.
