Name: Callisturn Yewtail (Calli or Cal by friends)
Gender: Female
Age: 12 in mouse years
Species: Black Striped Field Mouse
Occupation: Helps with the younger dibbuns
Physical Appearance:
Calli has a slight, lean build, even for a mouse. Her fur is a rather pretty chestnut-sienna colour, and she has a striking black stripe which runs from the top of head, down her back to the base of her tail. She ties back her wispy chestnut hair, which falls just below her shoulders, with a pretty green ribbon, which she has owned since before she can remember. Calli has lovely hunter-green eyes, which show her emotions quite clearly, and make it near impossible for her to lie convincingly. She has rather soft facial features, which give her a kind, sweet appearance, but do not be fooled, for she is known to have one of the most disconcerting and menacing glares if you happen to get on her bad side. She has a small burn mark on her left paw from an accident in the kitchens when she was younger, as well as a long thin white scar which trails down her right leg. She received this scar when a game of ‘climb the highest tree you can find’ went drastically wrong.
Possessions
Calli carries a small, plain, bronze knife, which she uses to defend herself, or she would if she were ever in any danger. She also owns a thin silver necklace, which belonged to her mother.
Personality:
Calli is as stubborn as you’ll ever see in a mouse. She doesn’t like being told what to do, and has made it well known. She is generally not disrespectful towards her elders, though she has been known to speak out of turn a few times. She likes being independent, or at least, thinking that she is. She tends to enjoy being around those slightly her senior, though she also enjoys caring for the young dibbuns. She finds that she fits in better around the boys, as she enjoys adventurous games, though she tries very hard to retain a place among the girls as well.
Calli has a great sense of adventure. Her dream is to leave Redwall Abbey and travel the world. She also wishes to someday be re-united with her parents.
Strengths:
Calli is a good leader, even though she doesn’t particularly want to be one. She thinks quickly and is good for getting out of tight situations. Calli is secretly quite good at drawing, though she is too shy to show anyone her talent.
Weaknesses:
Calli is an Awful liar. She is impulsive and rarely takes the time to think before she acts. Sometimes she can be too honest, speaking her mind at times some would deem inappropriate. She often speaks out of turn, which gets her in a lot of trouble with her elders. She has poor aim with projectiles and finds that most axes and swords are too heavy for her to wield correctly, so she is limited to hand-on-hand combat, daggers and throwing knives.
History:
Cairn Yewtail was a handsome mouse, who fell in love with a mousemaid named Ralen. They were together for some months, until Cairn was captured by searats. At the time of his disappearance Ralen had just told him that she was pregnant. Ralen continued to live alone, until her child was born.
Ralen Briargrass gave birth to a beautiful baby mousemaid. She named her Callisturn. Unfortunately, this was in a time of strife for Ralen’s land, and it was very dangerous. Ralen worried about her daughter’s future, so when she heard some hares near-by talking of traveling to Redwall, she begged them to take her child. She knew that with her poor health, she would never make it, but she wanted her child to be safe, so she send her child away with them. She died a few days later of an illness.
Callisturn Yewtail came to Redwall Abbey in the dead of the night, delivered by two tall hares of the Long Patrol. They left again the next morning, leaving Callisturn behind, with but a name and a necklace belonging to her mother. Callisturn was raised in Redwall with the rest of the dibbuns, not knowing anything of her past. She has chosen to believe that her parents are still out there somewhere, and she is determined to find them.
