Name:
Nura Thistlegown
Gender:
Female
Age:
27 years (108 seasons! )
Species:
Hedgehog
Occupation:
Traveler; Explorer of Redwall
Physical Appearance:
Nura is a dark hedgehog, with her fur being a dark brown, her quills a darker brown, with black tips, and her eyes being pure black. She usually wears a dark cloak that helps her blend int with the ground, usually for evading and sneak attacks. Her quaterstaff stays in her hand at all times, her sling, knife, and stone pouch stays at her waist, and her bag stays on her back. Around her left arm, she has a black band of fur, almost like a bracelet, and another around her right ankle. She has an athletic build, which comes from living off the land and having a pretty strenuous workout everyday. She is a bit shorter than the norm for hedgehogs, and her weight is a bit below the norm as well.
Possessions:
Flint and Steel, Quaterstaff, Sling, Stones, Dark Cloak, Food Sack (Usually near empty), 4 Waterskins, Book, Knife
Personality:
Nura is a lovely person to be around, but she’s as stubborn as a mule. She will stand up for people, and has gotten into trouble in the past because of this. She laughs a lot, and smiles even more. Her laughs are beautiful, her smiles dazzling, and, if you see or hear either, you won’t forget it for a while yet. She's also a rebel, lazy, incredibly smart, and believes you either have to kill your enemy or be killed. This doesn't apply to spars.
Strengths:
Nura is quite adept with several weapons, and she's a quick-thinker. She's also quick, determined, and has a good singing voice.
Weaknesses:
Nura is quite stubborn and has a very quick temper. She also isn't that strong, and will eat as much as a hare if given enough food.
History:
Nura was born to a normal family in Mossflower Woods. She was happy. Her family was always smiling and laughing, and someone, either one of them or a friend of the family, always found time to play with her. Then, after about a year of good fortune, a crew of waterrats attaked their home. Her father, a pretty decent fighter, held them off, while her mother grabbed the two of them, and escaped through a back door. She had started for the Main Road when they caught up with them. Zuyko, her mother, tried to hold them off while Akuma and Nura ran ahead. They, luckily, made it to the Main Road, and met up with a small group of travelers there, who helped them kill the riverrats when they finally caught up.
From there, they traveled with the group to Redwall. Their home was probably too far gone to risk going back, and they needed somewhere to stay. They stayed there for a while, but Akuma left with the group, and never returned. Nura was then risen by the Redwallers as a group. They banded together to raise her. And so they did. They taught her many things, but the most important in her mind was learning how to fight. She proved quite adept with the ax, sling, bow, spear, and sword. But, her favourite, and the one she was probably best at, was the quarterstaff.
After a long winter, she overheard Redwall's Recorder complaining. Something about needing to know more about Mossflower and the surrounding areas. Their maps needed serious updating. Nura immediately stood and volunteered to be the Abbey's First Official Explorer. She'd always liked traveling to get things from Mossflower Woods, and was always disappointed when she had to come back. Surprisingly, the Abbot agreed to let her go, and she immediately starting packing. Eventually, armed with food and her trusty quarterstaff, she left, promising to be back next year.
On her travels, she eventually met a wise old crow named Mahrahk. A special crow, Mahrahk was pure white, and quite knowledgable. They traveled together for a bit, and eventually split ways, but not before Mahrahk told her where he lived. Now, whenever she has a particularily hard-to-solve problem, she goes to Mahrahk.
She came back to the Abbey, as she promised, full of stories of her travels. She told them all to the Recorder, and was gone again in the next week. She yet again promised to be back in a year. It's only two more seasons before that time. Or one... Depends on how you count 'em.
Relationships:
Mahrahk - Crow - Good Friend - Alive
Zuyko Thistlegown - Hedgehog - Mother - Dead
Adero Thistlegown - Hedgehog - Father - Dead
Akuma Thistlegown - Hedgehog - Older Sister - Unknown
Other:
At the end of every day, she writes about the day in her book, which she keeps so that she won't forget all her experiences. She then keeps this book so that she can give it to the Redwall Recorder when she's done with another year's adventures. When writing, she has a unique talent of being able to pull out her own quills, and being able to use them. Nobody asks how it works, so I suggest you don't. It's a secret between her and me.
