Name: Griffin Slatetail
Gender: Male
Age: 30
Species: Wood Mouse
Occupation: Keeper of the Grounds at Redwall Abbey
Physical Appearance:
Griffin is a small but sturdily built mouse. He has light cream-tan fur and hazel-shaped black eyes. His long tail is colored with a hint of gray, hence his last name, Slatetail. His muzzle is shaped like a slightly thin triangle and tipped with a moist black nose. The tip of one of his ears is missing, as he didn't always live at Redwall Abbey and he had some close encounters with vermin. Despite his safe life at the Abbey, he usually is found wandering around the grounds at all time of the day and night, wearing the traditional green habit of the Abbey, but adding a snakeskin belt, through which is thrust a long knife that he stole from the kitchens.
Possessions
Griffin carries his knife that he stole from the kitchen, and also posesses a snakeskin belt and wears a green habit.
Personality:
Griffin, for his job, can be a devious little creature. He has an annoying habit of stealing scones from the kitchen, and when he's not doing that, he's usually found pacing around the grounds at all hours of the day and night. Therefore, he can be a useful warning system.
He's usually frowning, oddly enough; but when you talk to him, he can get chatty quite fast. Also, he tends to get snappy when he's reading or writing and someone interrupts him. When doing either of these activities, he can be found in Great Hall or Cavern Hole. He tends to sleep during the day, if at all; if a beast is smart, they won't disturb him when he's sleeping.
Strengths:
Griffin's a good thief; he can pretty much steal whatever he wants from right under a beast's nose with out them noticing. Also, he's pretty good at fighting with his knife; skilled enough that, if need arised, he could kill another with it, making him somewhat of a formidable opponent.
Weaknesses:
Griffin fails at the act of cooking. If you want good food, don't let him into the kitchen, period. He's twice as likely to burn his paws or his tail then he is to actually cook something edible. Also, with the years of relaxed Abbey life, Griffin is not able to fight as well as he once did.
History:
Griffin's parents, were of the rare evil goodbeast type. In fact, his father, Maevk Slatetail, was the second mate of a vermin ship, while his mother, Silverblade Slatetail, was an ordinary crew member. No self-respecting vermin would let a mouse on their ship, much less let them become a second mate, so his mother and father disguised themselves as rats. This disguise worked for a time.
When Griffin was born, his name, as his parents had to call him something that sounded like a corsair name, was Ripclaw Slatetail. He grew up around a ton of corsairs who settled disputes with their blades, and the captain was the one who got all the food; that's how he learned to steal.
When he turned 16, the vermin found out his parents were actually mice. Don't ask him how he knows; it was just luck, or so he thinks. Anyway, as with all the nice vermin, he got tossed into the sea with his parents. The frozen cold water caused him to pass out; when he came to, he was washed up on Mossflower beach, with his dead mother and father right alongside him. Griffin took them into the fringes of Mossflower and buried them under an oak tree before he continued to Redwall Abbey.
To make a long story short, he finally arrived there, and was promptly renamed by the inhabitants Griffin. The day he turned 25 was the day he stole his knife from the kitchen, straight from the Friar's belt. It was a long, serrated edged knife that he liked the feel of in his paw. And when he turned 29, he became the Groundskeeper of Redwall Abbey.
