It was a beautiful summer day; the sun was shining and there was a slight breeze stirring the treetops. Birds were singing in their soft voices. Rorgus was walking through the woods toward a stream to make camp. He sat down at the stream with his legs dangling over the edge of the bank. He gazed into the shining water and saw something flash by. It was a fish. He jumped up eagerly, grabbed a branch nearby, and rummaged through his pack till he found some string and a piece of metal, which he bent into a hook. He tied the hook to his string and the string to his branch, baited it then threw it into the water. He waited for about ten minutes before he felt a tug at his line. He jerked it out of the water and landed a great big trout! He cleaned it and put it on a spit over the fire, and began turning it slowly. He knew how to cook, for his mother had taught him. He gathered some herbs he found nearby and began making a sauce for his fish. When the fish was cooked he took it off the spit and poured the sauce over it. It was the best fish he had ever had! Once he had finished eating, he got up and dove into the stream to cool off. He frolicked around in the water for a while then got out and made his bed for the night. He went to sleep that night and dreamed about his mother and sister back at home. He had left his home, for he was restless and eager for adventure. He knew that they were in safe paws, for his friends Burkle and Yekle had stayed behind to protect them. Having had enough adventures for a couple of years. So they decided to settle down with Sapphire and Saffron.
Rorgus woke the next morning to another perfect day. He was making his breakfast of cakes and October ale, when he heard the bushes rustling. He cautiously strung his bow and hid nearby to wait for his guest.
