They say the night is always darkest before the dawn. If this is true, then 'twas during this particular level of darkness that five beasts stole into a small Mossflower village. Each wore a veil or a mask on his face, concealing their identities. It was said that the village contained valuable treasures, and like any vermin, they sought after it.
The building in which it was stored was always guarded, but at this time of night, everybeast would be half-awake, at best, and careless. Three of the five creatures entered the building, quickly slaying the two, sleeping guardbeasts on either side of the door. Upon entering, one of the three vermin, a weasel, quickly drew a dagger before anybeast could react, and held it at the throat of one of the eight other guards that were inside. He pressed the blade lightly against the unfortunate mole's throat so that the smallest drop of blood appeared. This was a warning to the other beasts occupying the room. The treasures were behind another door, which was locked. It was the job of the other two vermin to open that door from the inside, and bring whatever valuables there were to them whilst they kept the goodbeasts at bay.
These very two beasts stood atop the roof of the building, explosive powder piled onto a single spot of of the roof, right above the room in which the treasures were hidden. As they set up what would potentially be a something of a bomb, they conversed.
"So, why d' they call 'im the Glassmaker d'ya think?" said the one working on making a small fire, which he would use to light the highly flammable fuse that led to the pile of explosive powder.
Said the other, a stoat, who crouching near the powder, checking to make certain that nothing was out of place, "'Cos 'at's wut 'e is, puddin'brains. Whut I wants ta know is why 'e ain't doin' any o' dis work. Why can't 'e jus' cum an' get da treasure 'imself? I m--"
BOOM
The stoat had no time to finish, for the other had lit the fuse while the stoat spoke. Unfortunately for the stoat, he hadn't been paying attention to the other, and had therefore been killed in the process of blasting a hole through the roof. The other, a fox, approached, and, ignoring the burning carcass, stomped on the smoldering patch on the roof, a remnant of the explosion. In seconds, he had broken through the roof, and was soon in the room along with the treasure.
Meanwhile, one of the other three vermin, a ferret, worked at the locked door, attempting to pick the lock with an unusual, long claw of his. He succeeded, and entered the room to find the fox gathering the treasure into a bag. Dey 'ave loads o' de stuff! he thought.
"Whur's de udder one?" asked the ferret of the fox, referring to the stoat.
"I killed him. I didn't trust 'im, but hey, that's one less share, so more for us," he replied, not bothering to look up at the ferret.
"My thoughts exactly..." came the whispered reply.
The foxes eyes widened. "What--no!" Before he could even turn to look at the ferret, he was silenced by the ferret's dagger.
"Hurry up in there!" came a voice from the room with the guards. It was the weasel who still held a dagger to the throat of the mole, "We don't 'ave a--" He stopped abruptly, the dagger slipping from his paw as he fell backward, dead.
((I imagine that what killed the weasel was an arrow, but it can be whatever whoever-joins decides. The only vermin left are the fox, who is inside the treasure-room, and a rat, who is in the same room as the dead weasel.
Don't worry, the characters aren't all NPC's.))

Neko Blindeye was sharpening his twin hatchets on a rock, making the blades dangerous. He started to polish the handles when he heard the sounds of beasts argueing. His ears were better then most because of him being a) half blind, and b) well, his eye that remains just ain't good.
The albino ferret stopped hoaning the edges, his pink eyes swept over the area. His milky left eye looked strange with his colorless white pelt. The scar on his blind side stood out pink against everything else, fur not growing in the area.
The former corsair looked at his paws where his captain had tried to tattoo him, but there was nothing marring the fur. His righ paw shot up to his ear where the hole of the spot where his heavy gold earing had sat. It was larger now from having the ring torn from the flesh by his captain when he lost site in his left eye. Tis also how he'd gotten the scar on his left side.
He got up and looked up to the sky. Being color-blind, and having distance problems, Neko had to rely so much on his other senses. He hated his own name now. Meaning Champion in German, it didn't really fit him anymore.
But, curiosity overcame Neko's thoughts, and he walked forwards to see corpses on the ground....
Oi! What 'appened 'ere?
He spat on the ground.
OOC-OMIGOODNESS! TOBY MAC! I LOVE TOBY MAC! I just saw him at creation, Such a good show! WHOOT WHOOT

((I'll join the thread. The first post reminds me of the beginning of Dark knight. Warning, though. My only character so far is a mouse. She's heading in the general direction of Redwall after a problem with a stoat. She's beaten up, burnt, and not happy. XD)) Skies were most often, to those who noticed, blue. To others who liked seeing both sides of the coin that day was, blacky-velvet blue was just a common color as cheery robin-egg. Right now, though, the brooding light brown eyes of Oaklea Wildrun saw only charred black with hints of raw, bleeding red. She winced and rummaged in her pack half-heartedly for something to wrap her paw with. Helsgates!, she mentally swore, tugging the last knot tight with her teeth and letting the wrapping dangle off her arm as she put the rest of the bandages--what few there were!--away. I hate that stoat! I swear, he won't escape with only a ship burnt to nothing next time! Helsgates! Continuing her mental rant, the black-furred woodmouse suddenly snapped upright as something exploded a short ways away from her position. She blinked. "What in blazes...?" Of course, explosions immediately meant one thing to the Northerner--investigate! (and, if possible, cause some of explosions of her own...but that was secondary, of course!). Pushing herself fluidly up onto all fours, she left the pack and her brown travelers cloak at the base of the the tree--an oak, as always where she rested. Brining her uninjured left paw to the top of her shoulder, she briefly grasped the hilt of her sword and patted the long, whip-like cord wrapped around her waist and the slim dagger tied to it. All weapons accounted for, she set off like a shadow through the trees. The lights of a village caught her attention. How did I miss that? she wondered, frowning. Blast! My head must be more muddled than I thought if I passed an entire village...perhaps it'd be better to avoid the explosions tonight. As always, though, she did not heed her own advice and set off at a silent trot past the edges of the town. A waft of smoke hit her nose as she darted between the shadows, and her nostrils flared. From one fire to the next. I need a hobby. Glancing upward as the smell became stronger, she blinked, realizing that the smoke was wafting from a charred hole in the roof of a building. "What the...?" Vermin! Sliding quickly past the wreckage of the front most room, she tugged once to loosen the cord around her waist. Just in case. Stepping into another room, she halted as her vision focused on a rat standing over the body of a weasel. A breath of annoyed air blew out from her nose--she really should have traveled farther today. Clearing her throat, she smiled in a lopsided way. "'Ello, mate. What're you doin'?" ((Ignore this, if you want...Thought I'd let Oaklea run into trouble before making it to the Abbey...and I'm Nordic, so that's how I would spell 'helsgates'. *shrugs* *pokes* Which one is the Glassmaker? Does Oaklea have to be Mousewoman? *is shot for being an idiot* DX))

[[OOC: i just had to put my sword Ironblood slanted like, puts on some drama XD]]
Shadowsleek peered her head over the top of the blown roof, heart close to blasting out of her chest. "what in hellsgates happened?" she wondered aloud. Her Black fur nearly made her invisible in the night sky. She had been sleeping not so far away on the ground, and now the once nice roof was a big hole. "i should REALLY stop sleeping!" she said again to herself, Brown eyes sparkling. taking a deep breath and drawing her curved sword form her belt which she called Ironblood.
Summing up courage she dropped below to find a fox, smuggling up treasure. Being a weasel vermin herself, she felt a little comfort, but not much. "oi you, fox boy! Tis not very smart o' you. I shall not fight you, but i warn ya to be on yer toes"

Signasul, who awoken earlier by the sounds of unfamiliar footsteps, stood on the roof top, the green knife in his paw, observing the every movement of the thieves. Hurrying to the edge of the blasted hole, his boots making loud crunching noises as he went, he pushed the dead stoat out of the way and looked over the torn lip to see a black figure. “Her” he said lowly, with a sneer on his lips “must be that weasel I’ve heard so much about” With a jerk he threw himself down into the hole landing on a pile of rubble with a loud smash. He got to his feet quickly, his trench coat covered in dust, he looked back up at the hole, then to the other weasel. “Nice… it’s a shame you weren’t born in Arrila, could have used some one like you on the front, assuming of coarse that this was your plan?” he giggled and said in a booming voice “that would be ironic wouldn’t it? Stealing this plan to steel stuff from this abbey… hahaha.” he voice then dropped down very low. “Now, leave before I tare your guts out through your legs.”

Shadowsleek whisked around and drew her curved sword "whos side you on, eh? thief i am, im not stealin' this loot, i have better things to do. Im merely" she growled and pointed her sword to the fox "stopping him." Shadowsleek narrowed her brown eyes at him, her black traveling cloak clung close to her, she never really saw weasels as herself a lot.

((DANGERRRR~!!! The person playing the fox hasn't shown up in a LOOONNNGG time, and I think the fox is an NPC anyway. *shrugs* CHARRGEE!!! XD )) Oaklea poked at the dead body once more with her foot, then sighed and tossed her daggord nonchalantly over one shoulder. She was averse to re-wrapping it about her waist and leaving, although she didn't know why. Was there anyone else left to deal with? Crunch crunch crunch...pawsteps! "Blast," she muttered, sliding like a shadow slong hte wall to peek around the corner of another blasted-open hole. Two weasles and a fox! Two weasles about to kill each other! ...Stealing from Redwall? Oaklea snarled and flew from her hiding place, weapon twirling above her head as she lunged at the weasle in the trenchcoat. Baring her teeth savagley, the mousemaid stopped between the two of them, snarling. "Steal from Redwall an' I'll have your head, weasles!" (((...Dramatic, isn't she? ^^""" Her weapon she's using right now is a 'daggord' , a dagger attached to a long whipy kinda cord. Right now she's got hold of the cord and is twirling it above her head.
Nah, your posts are fine, really! ))

Shadowsleek burst out laughing at this mouse "have...our head....thats a good one!" with every word giggled so it was hard for her to speak. After calming down she stared boldly at the mousemaid, with brown eyes " A little Redwaller, eh? to bold for there stomachs if yeah ask me, and what on earth is that your holdin'? Get out of hear mousey! we where just joking you little easedropper!" she swung her sword dangerously close to her nose in an arch and then sheathed it in her belt "i am a noble creature, miss, i only fight for my life or if i feel like it"
((OOC: lol, the fox is dead i nmy eyes. ans lol again, i was going to look up what a daggord was until you said at the bottom you made it up (nice choice, i must say) XD)

(( XD Lol, that fox isn't doing much...and Oaklea made it up, then made me give it a name. ^^" She's like that...crazy. Oaklea: AND I'M PROUD! )) The mouse's back arched, her brown eyes narrowed, and she snarled. " Joking? It's a sad creature who jokes at other's expense! And I'm no offical Redwaller." Oaklea's eyes glittered dangerously, and she could feel the tugging at her nerves to go berserk. She held it down for the moment, and instead flicked the daggord to skim just under Shadowsleek's chin before snapping her wrist and twirling it above her head again. "I'm a Northerner, but the Redwallers have been good to me and I'll let you insult them when the sea freezes over. And it's called a daggord, thank you very much." "And I wasn't eavesdropping--I was dealing with a rat and heard you. Might wanna keep yer jokes to yaselves." She made no inclination to reply to Shadowsleek's claim of being noble, but the look on her face clearly said, Prove it.((...Oaklea isn't fond of vermin...^^"))

((OOC: heh, got the idea when she made my chin bleed, XD lol))
Shadowsleek glared at her and snarled "Whatever you say, mousemaid." she said rubbing her stinging chin. She noticed her words and bared her sharp white teeth "now, if you want to save this loot form being stolen by a fox, you're going to have to work with me, stubborn beast!" Shadowsleek hissed to herself, all these redwallers where the same, being proud and feirce, she could care less about the mouse, she justed wanted to stop the fox. More due that she wanted this loot, but that wasn't important, she wasn't going to menchion that to the mouse. She turned her attenchion back to the other weasel "what do you think about the mouse?" she asked as a joke.

A surge of wild delight hummed through Oaklea. She'd made the weasle maa-aad! She'd made the weasle maa-aad! Now if only she could attack or start a fight or--
"The fox!" Oaklea hissed, swinging her head around and nearly forgetting to keep an eye on the weasles out of the corner of her periferal vision. The fox was almost about ready to get away while they were tradingthreats and arguing...with all of those things...she could take him. What if there were more? Trust the weasle?
...Yeah, that'd work at this point, sure.
...Or go berserk?
"Hah hah...heh hee...hah, hah hah hah..."
The crazed light in her eyes and the vibrationg of her body seemed to signify her choice.
(( Why on earth it seemed a smart idea to make Oaklea a berserker, I don't know, but here she goes. -.-" You can do whatever you like, but any chance of her listening to you is long gone. ^^" Sorry!
Oaklea: RAAAAHHHH!!!

Shadowsleek eyes widened and took a step back "knew that whole "Martin the warrior" thing was just a sign that mice where crazy, believing in spirits," she then did the wisest thing that came to mind; get that weapon away from the crazy mouse! She drew her sword and made a slash for the string that was circling the air

((Thank Oaklea. She's happy to be of service! XD ^^" ))
Trust the weasle? Go berserk. Berserk--
--the weasle was attacking!
Oaklea howled and dropped her weapon, lunging forward with paws outstretched. The fact that she had left her short sword back under the oak tree didn't occur to her in the least, totally absorbed as she was in attacking--attacking enemies--attacking vermin all around her! They were everywhere!
Behind her, the fox hissed out a curse as his foot caught on a rock and it tumbled to tfloor. Oaklea immideatly stopped in mid-charge, whirled on her heel, and lunged at the theif.
"WIIIILLLLLDDDDDRRRRUUUUNNNNN!!!"
((Crazy mice? You have NO idea. o_0 ))

Signasul watched perplexed as the mouse rambled and lunged at random. He shook his head and looked back at the female. "And every single mouse here is this crazy too!" he said with a smile "imagine all of them going after you, perhaps you and your buddy there should just...go on home. no one here would think the lesser of you if you did, especially sense your standing as thief is so low. Kind of like how it's hard to bury some beast once you hit bedrock... you know?"

"Body?" growled Shadowsleek "i have no "buddy" with a fox, there impossible to trust, now, what are YOU doing here?" she asked, anger rising. She did not draw her sword. "i will be leaving, but not without knowing that fox is dead!" she clentched her jaw and looked at the crazy mouse "what in mossflower is "wildrun?"

Oaklea turned a baleful eye and a scowl back to Shadowsleek. She was at the bottom of the remains of a wall, and the fox was now precariously perched above her. The mousemaid spat between her teeth. "My surname!" Then, miraculously, the words 'I have no 'buddy' with a fox, they're impossible to trust' worked it's way into her brain, and she blinked. Apparently, this wasn't an organized attack on Redwall afterall. The only one to blame was the fox. The ectasy of going berserk suddenly died down. "...Oh." ((real bright, isn't she? ^^" Oaklea: Ah, shut up. I didn't want to go berserk for no reason. It's exhausting. ...Sorry, then. Oaklea: I for give you. -.-" ))

Shadowsleek slapped her head " now you get it?" she muttered. Redwallers where sure slow! She wondered how the warlords of before hadn't easily taken it over...then again these mice have pride, hope and beserkness, if this is what Cluny, Ironbeck and others had once faced, she understood how the failed.
((just another reason Shadowsleek thinks mice are some of the most pathetic creatures in the Redwall world, XD

"It's not my fault most vermin are two-toungued liars!" Oaklea spat, keeping one eye on the fox. She jabbed an accusing finger at the theif on the wall, and her daggord was in her hand again. Now she had the hilt of the dagger in her paw, the cord wrapped around her wrist. "What does this one deserve, speaking of vermin?" she muttered.
She didn't offically live at Redwall, but she knew they looked down on war and killing as a rule. Besides, the fox realy had no where to go. Did she need to maim him, even? She wasn't berserk at the moment, and the thought of all that blood made her slightly quesy.
"Any ideas?" she asked aloud, not really expecting anyone to reply.
((very anti-mice, isn't she? XD

“ok, I’m sorry, do you think this abbey was built last week? We aren’t stupid…” he stopped him self and looked over at the mouse, then back at the female “Ok, Most of aren’t. But I know for a fact that you and your fox are not here a rest stay, and I think it’s pretty oblivious what your intentions are given the gaping hole in the roof.” He smiled and approached her calmly “Go no, and in piece, and I promise no harm will come to you. Stay, and I’ll half to ask if you want a coffin or not?”
