Walking along the Woodland Cliff « Thread Started on Sept 23, 2009, 1:07pm »
Renaud Wildroar walked joyfully through the trees. He had just visited his Holt the other day and was very happy after seeing his family again.
He now trekked through a dense patch of woodland ash and oak. The trees grew strong and old in the rocky ground, which was practically solid rock as the ground stretched out and cut off into a humongous cliff. The cliff held the dizzying heights of an almost straight drop down into the crashing waves of the wild northern sea bellow.
This fact did not halter Renny's joy, he grew up along such things so it was not a problem. He was happy that the sun was peeking through the clouds and warming the always chilly northern breeze combined with the salt spray of the waves. Not that this bothered him much, his fur and cloak kept him warm. He weaved in and out of the trees with the sunlight casting a green glow through the foliage and the seagulls calling form their nests.
Renny sighed. This was the life traveling with no intent of where he was going, with the peaceful sounds of the North to guide he where he pleased, with the quiet trees standing still....or where they....Out of the corner of Renny's eye he saw a flash of shadow. As he continued to trod quietly along he heard his steps being mimicked by somebeast. He was being followed... Now this did not lighten his mood one bit. He walked a few more steps and then he slid behind a tree with lighting fast swiftness. If the beast following him would continue on it's current trail it would walk right in front of him. With his Marlfox cloak concealing him to the tree, he silently drew his blade. He had to be careful, just incase...He quieted his breath and watched silently as the beast moved in front of his tree...He stepped forward, the creature had it's back to him, with blade concealed in his cloak..he spoke to make himself known, "Wat ye be a folowin' mae fur mate?"

Fang's paws echoed across the dusty ground as he headed toward the cliff.
It was his favorite place to be when he had time; a place to practice among the sounds of nature. And, it wasn't that deep-about 20 feet into a deep stretch of sea- and he could dive it if he wanted. He almost smiled, then realized he didn't smile, so the upturned corners of his mouth moved back down to put the frown back on the weasel's face. With a swift movement, he drew his steel sword, testing its balance, and walked a few more paces before he swung the blade, which sheared a small maple sapling near the cliff in half. The top half of the tree toppled backward and disappeared into the cliff. Fang looked over the edge and watched the leaves and trunk sink beneath the roaring waves.
His ears caught noise and he backed up as a voice resounded against the ancient trunks of the trees.
Wat ye be a folowin' mae fur mate?
Fang's ears pricked and he whirled around, concentrating and glimpsing the barest trace of a gray-green cloak that was pressed easily against the tree. Fang almost frowned, again.

Wat ye be a folowin' mae fur mate?
Fang's ears pricked and he whirled around, concentrating and glimpsing the barest trace of a gray-green cloak that was pressed easily against the tree. Fang almost frowned, again.
"I wasn't." he said flatly.
"O' course ye weren't mate." Renny said sarcastically, his paw still curled around the handle of his blade. "Ye an' aye just 'appen ta be walkin' da same path at da same tyme."
His eyes surveyed the beast before him from under the hood of his cloak. This tall black weasel was defiantly a warrior, but for what cause did he fight? His scar across his face gave him the look that he had before seen an opponent that was formidable, but the weasel was still alive. The appearance of the creature was defiantly frightening, but Renny was not afraid, and was not one to judge lightly. The weasel may still be good or he may be the up most evil that Renny has ever seen. One may never truly ever know, even if they had known for a long time.
Renny stood his ground as he questioned the weasel. "Saw if ye weren't a followin' mae....Wat da ye be a dain' 'ere and wat de ye go by?"

O' course ye weren't mate. Ye an' aye just 'appen ta be walkin' da same path at da same tyme."
The paw that held Fang's steel sword twitched slightly at the sarcastic comment. Inadvertently, the sides of the weasel's mouth curved into a frown. "Sarcasm isn't the lowest form of wit, you know. It's not even wit at all." Fang stated, his mouth going back to its usual position as he stared the sea otter down.
The otter was wearing a shifting gray-green cloak that blended it into the background, and its fur was a deep dark brown. It was holding a katana-like sword with the air of one who knew how to use it, and its hazel-gold eyes were examining him.
Saw if ye weren't a followin' mae....Wat da ye be a dain' 'ere and wat de ye go by?
Fang was slightly confused by the otter's accent, but could understand it well enough. He glared it in the eye, black to gold, and decided to reply.
"I go here when I want." he said, a hint of disapproval in his cool, icy tone as he determined the otter wasn't a threat to him; swiftly he tacked on, "My name is Fang."

"Sarcasm isn't the lowest form of wit, you know. It's not even wit at all."
"Funny mate..Ah didn't knaw, ye even knaw wat dat ment." Renny said with a snap. This beast was quick, but he would have to be quicker. Both beasts had there swords hanging loosely, yet they were both ready to strike if necessary.
"I go here when I want." he said, a hint of disapproval in his cool, icy tone as he determined the otter wasn't a threat to him; swiftly he tacked on, "My name is Fang."
Renny saw the weasel relax a bit as he spoke, a misjudgment on his part because as soon has he did, Renny used the cloak to disappear where he stood. He then circled the weasel saying, "Aye an' fur wat reason wauld dat be Fang? Fur I'd really like to know.." Renny apeared and was now face to face, whisker almost touching whisker to the weasel, his Katina-like blade gently tapping the inside of the weasel's swordblade, showing him that his blade was closer to hitting home. His golden eyes staring unwaveringly into "Fang's" black coals, waiting..just waiting......

Funny mate..Ah didn't knaw, ye even knaw wat dat ment. the otter snapped quickly at Fang's first statement. The weasel's paw tightened into a vice like grip on his blade easily. feeling the familiar ridges and cuts in the steel and wood, moving a finger over the stone gem. He watched the otter's paw tighten as well.
Fang had relaxed mistakenly; but he was tense again, black eyes steely and focused as the otter's cloak seemed to shimmer and melt it swiftly into the background, but even so the katana blade was still out, and by following its progress Fang could judge roughly where the otter currently was at.
Aye an' fur wat reason wauld dat be Fang? Fur I'd really like to know..
The katana moved toward the weasel and the otter appeared with a shimmer of gray-green. The creature's blade moved to touch Fang's as the otter stared the weasel in the eyes.
In the blink of an eye, Fang leapt backward, raised his sword, and jumped forward to try a feint at the otter's head. Fang's reflexes were quick; should the otter stay still and suspect the sword stroke was a fake, Fang would follow through with the blade. If the otter moved, his blade would move fluidly too, hacking at the otter's leg to hopefully cut fur and draw blood.
Then Fang leapt back after the attack, quickly opening a pouch on his belt to place flesh-cutting sharp steel studs to add to the toughness of his claws. Baring his long, viciously sharp curved teeth that had given his name, he raised the blade to await the otter's return attack.

*In the blink of an eye, Fang leapt backward, raised his sword, and jumped forward to try a feint at the otter's head.*
Renny watched as the weasel reacted quickly. If he had blinked, he would have missed it. With a quick snap of his wrist and arm, Renny's blade caught Fang's slash at his head and parred it with a flick of his wrist. The rest of his body stood still, in the same relaxed-tense position it had been when he was talking to the weasel. Renny had hoped that this display of skill would put the thought in Fang's mind that he wasn't dealing with an unskilled beast here.
As the weasel rebounded, Renny shifted his right footpaw back so he stood in a sparing stance, his blade firmly in his outstretched left paw and his hood still gently over the rim of his brow.
"Naw dat wasn't nice mate. Attackin' a beast w'en 'e be a askin' ye a simple question an' ye dan't even knaw dere name yet...*tisk tisk*.....Ah'm sure ye've 'ad a better upbrin'in' den dat....Naw ah'll give ye da fair c'ance dat ye didn't 'ear me da first time and Ah'll say it un mor' time....Fur w'at reasin da ye com 'ere Fang?"
Renny then stood still, not wanting to attack for he did not want to kill a beast that just may have reflexes wound too tight, but he was willing to fight if that was all the weasel wanted....

Fang had leapt in in the space of less than a second, and, although the otter didn't show it, knew that his reflexes would have startled it, even if slightly. Fang knew he was dealing with a practiced swordsbeast here as the otter flicked its blade to parry Fang's attacks.
Naw dat wasn't nice mate. Attackin' a beast w'en 'e be a askin' ye a simple question an' ye dan't even knaw dere name yet.....Ah'm sure ye've 'ad a better upbrin'in' den dat....Naw ah'll give ye da fair c'ance dat ye didn't 'ear me da first time and Ah'll say it un mor' time....Fur w'at reasin da ye com 'ere Fang.
When the otter mentioned better upbringing Fang had a sudden flash in his mind of Glavon Snow, who had raised him, and shut it down hard. Anyway, Fang knew why he had come to practice and imagined his blade slashing down on Glavon's head, but he chose a different but honest answer, still ready to attack.

Renny looked at Fang with mock shock. "Divin' mate? Really?" Ah ne'er wood 'ave guessed."
As Fang replied, Renny noticed that his thoughts were else where, but not for long. Not wanting to cause anymore ciaos then was already here...Renny noted it in the back of his mind and stored it for later....
"Well mate..if ye only be 'ere ta dive...den dere be naw reason ta be a walkin' around wi't yer sword out naw is dere.."
Keeping his eyes locked on the weasel, Renny was careful on this next words and movements...
"Saw if ye mean w'at ye say den ah think we can put our blades dawn can't we......We'll be gentlebeast ta and daw it tagether..ah'll out mine away if ye put away yers.."
Renny then waited for the weasel's reply and ready to put his blade up, but also ready to fight if the weasel was willing to couperate...

Divin' mate? Really?" Ah ne'er wood 'ave guessed.
Fang's thoughts were a million miles away and he hardly heard the words the sea otter spoke, although he wasn't sure if it looked like he was zoned out. Glavon Snow was the only thing he remembered in this precise instant, and with it Fang knew he was stronger and more powerful than the warlord. He would practice, and one day, Glavon would be no more than a dark name from years ago. Fang's thoughts abruptly flashed back to the present...
Well mate..if ye only be 'ere ta dive...den dere be naw reason ta be a walkin' around wi't yer sword out naw is dere..
No, there isn't, the part of his brain in the present told him. Put the sword away.
Still, that bit of his mind told him that Glavon was still alive, that to kill or injure the otter in front of him would be practice for a slightly stronger enemy. Fang wanted to resist, to not be drawn in, but was finding it impossible. He struggled with the thought, then looked up at the otter with difficulty. The otter who had brought these thoughts upon him with the words 'better upbringing'.
Saw if ye mean w'at ye say den ah think we can put our blades dawn can't we......We'll be gentlebeast ta and daw it tagether..ah'll out mine away if ye put away yers...
Fang's brain urged his paws to lift the sword and strike, but his paws wouldn't obey. His mind was stronger, and it lifted his paws eventually, to raise the blade above his head to kill the otter, but Fang stopped them. The otter wasn't his enemy. He would take revenge on the vermin and Glavon. The blade dipped down to bite the ground and Fang took a slow, deep breath.

Renny watched as the weasel raised his blade above his head like he was going to strike, so Renny tilted his blade accordingly, preparing to defend if necessary. But the weasel seem to be fighting himself. It was as if his mind was wanting one thing and his body doing another.
Then the weasel's blade came down and bit the ground, with it's point digging into the ground. Renny watched as Fang took a deep breath as if he had fought a mind numbing battle with his body and had won, but not by much. Renny followed the weasel's example and brought his sword down, and spun it on the ground, with the tip in the ground deep enough so that he could lean on the blade and it would support his weight.
"Naw dat wasn't saw hard was it mate...." Renny said, picking out his words carefully as not to revoke the weasel, but his body was still tense enough to fight. Renny then pulled his hood back with a sweep of his right paw. " Dat's better." He commented. "Naw we can be a seein' each oder face ta face...Saw..naw will we be a puttin' are blades away an' talkin'? Ye ne'er did ask me name yet mate.." Renny hoped by changing the first thought in the weasel's mind might calm him down abit....

Fang panted slightly with the effort of fighting with his mind, but he was glad he'd resisted. I'm not falling for it, Glavon. he thought savagely. Your time will come. As will yours, Bryce Stoneclaw, he tacked on as an afterthought.
Naw dat wasn't saw hard was it mate.... the otter spoke carefully, and Fang realized what he must seem to the otter-an insane weasel-and he saw the otter's body was still tense to fight. Finally, he relaxed slightly, his eyes downcast, and the otter took off its hood.
Dat's better. Naw we can be a seein' each oder face ta face...Saw..naw will we be a puttin' are blades away an' talkin'? Ye ne'er did ask me name yet mate.."
Fang slowly put the blade back and said in a rough voice, "What's your name, then?"

Renny saw the weasel relax and sigh with relief. He loosened his mussels a bit as the weasel calmly asked him a question....
"What's your name, then?"
"Well mate...ah'm very glad ye be askin'..."
Renny said giving the weasel a brief grin. He then swept his blade up in some very fancy sword work and threw it in the air. He caught the spinning circle of silver and put it in the case on his back with a bow. Such a stunt would take the eyes of anybeast off of the rest of his surroundings.
" Ah be Renaud Wildroar, travelin' 'ealer, swordbeast, an' master o' Illusions....An' ah be a seein' ye dan't believe me words about may Illusons....Ye dan't have ta believe mae...but ye might want ta take dat candied chestnut off yer blade four some beast takes it from ye."
Renny calmly pointed to the fresh candied chestnut that was now conveniently stuck to the middle of Fang's blade.
( Cooperation in Renny's tricks would be apreceated....They don't work well one sided. )

(Yes.)
Well mate...ah'm very glad ye be askin'...
The weasel's first impulse was to roll his eyes. So he'd had horrible 'parents'. The otter didn't need to act like Fang was going to a mental institution, did he? The otter then threw his blade up and preformed some complicated moves with it.
Ah be Renaud Wildroar, travelin' 'ealer, swordbeast, an' master o' Illusions....An' ah be a seein' ye dan't believe me words about may Illusons....Ye dan't have ta believe mae...but ye might want ta take dat candied chestnut off yer blade four some beast takes it from ye.
The otter pointed to the nut stuck on the tip of Fang's blade. The weasel's face stayed neutral. Although he wasn't sure how the otter had done it-putting the chestnut on the blade-he wasn't going to make a big deal of it. Some fancy work, though, the weasel grudgingly acknowledged in his head.
He reached out his sharpened claws and nipped the nut off the tip of his sword, examining it. He didn't put it past anyone to poison his food, but after the inspection he decided that it was ok, popped it in his mouth, and chewed it slowly.

(that's good...I was getting worried there for a second..)
Renny watched the weasel take the candied chestnut off his blade and eat it, but with some hesitation. "It' ain't be a poisoned if dat be what yer wonderin'."
Renny now felt very awkward standing here playing tricks with a weasel. And having nothing to say. He knew that if he didn't say something the weasel may get the wrong impression, but if he said just anything the weasel would think he was an idiot. He had to say soemthing.....
"Saw matey, ye said ye came 'ere ta dive...Are ye gonna? Dat cliff be steep and dere ain't any easy way up fur a beast w'o ain't don't it afore."

It' ain't be a poisoned if dat be what yer wonderin'.
Fang swallowed the remains of the chestnut and blinked, not bothering to reply. It didn't really matter, because if it was poisoned, he was dead anyway.
Saw matey, ye said ye came 'ere ta dive...Are ye gonna? Dat cliff be steep and dere ain't any easy way up fur a beast w'o ain't don't it afore.
"Yes." Fang replied shortly. "Of course," he added, "You'd probably be better at it, seeing that you're an otter."
(short post. I couldn't really think of anything to say there, because I didn't want to just jump off the cliff right away)

"Yes." Fang replied shortly. "Of course," he added, "You'd probably be better at it, seeing that you're an otter."
Renny inwardly check himself. Of course he knew how to jump the cliff and get back up without hurting himself, for he had done it a million times at his Holt with is brothers and sisters, but he didn't want to just jump, leaving his things here to be robbed by a weasel he just met. So he responded to the weasel's response, choosing his words carefully.
"Aye, dat would probably be a true mate, ah've all sa done it afore. But ye see mate, we be a just meetin' an' ah'm not s'ure ah'd want ta leave al me t'ings up 'ere wit' ye mate. Not meanin' ta be rude er not'in'. Da only proper t'ing ta da wauld fur both o' us ta go a different way, 'ide our t'ings an' come back 'ere an' jump taget'er. Fang nodded and vanished into the depths of the forest; it was only a few minutes later he came out, his eyes fixed on the jagged edge of the cliff. He looked to the sea otter, Renny, and, without waiting, backed up.
At a quick speed, he ran to the edge and leapt swiftly off. His momentum carried him in twists through the air; like a spear, he dove down to the water.

Renny watched Fang nod and run off to hide his things. Okay...Renny thought to him-self. He had not expected Fang to agree with him that quickly, but to keep his good faith he turned the other way and hid his satchel, weapon, and cloak.
When he returned, he walked into the glade at the same time as the weasel. They both stared into each other's eyes and then Fang ran and jump over the cliff. Renny pumped his arms as he ran after Fang, feeling his leg muscles recoil and expand as his paws no longer touched the ground and he went soaring though the air.
The wind whistled through Renny's fur as he held his arms out spread, coasting through the air. It made is blood pump faster as he felt like he was falling in slow motion. He was always the better diver at his Holt and he was going to show this weasel, just who he challenged to jump.
Shifting his weight, Renaud caused his whole body to spin like the blades of a helicopter, then thrusting chest down he began a pencil dive straight down to the roaring waters below, his body also spinning with a straight drop down.
He saw a brief flash of black fur before he hit the water, cutting into a breaking wave with bearly a splash. Even a fall from that height into a water this cold didn't faze Ronny as he brought himself back to the surface in a large ark under the water. His thick fur always kept him warm in the chilly sea water.
Renny surfaced between two large rocks and climbed easily upon one of the slippery sides. He perched on the rock waiting for the weasel to resurface, to show that he wasn't going to be cold hearted and leave him in the icy cold water.
